Job summary

AAR at McEntire National Air Guard Base in Eastover, SC seeks an avionics technician to perform depot‑level modification, upgrade and test of aircraft subsystems to ensure airworthiness. You will inspect, test, modify and repair avionic and electrical systems, document results, and work with blueprints and test equipment.

Requirements include a degree with related experience or equivalent, F‑16/E&E experience preferred, and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years avionics maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree with 4+ years avionics maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • High School Diploma with 8+ years avionics maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • F-16/E&E experience preferred and clearances/certifications beneficial.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance required (US citizenship).

Responsibilities

  • Modifies, upgrades, inspects, tests, adjusts and repairs avionic and electrical systems.
  • Inspects components for defects and accuracy of assembly and installation.
  • Tests systems under simulated/actual conditions using test equipment.
  • Calibrates installed systems to prescribed specifications when required.
  • Documents all required government/program forms and records.

Description

Responsible for depot-level modification, upgrade, & test of aircraft sub-systems, ensuring airworthiness. Duties include, but are not limited to, inspecting, testing, modifying, and repairing avionic as well as other electrical systems/sub-systems. Examples include radar, radio, navigation, and aircraft power systems/sub-systems.

What You Will Be Responsible For
  • Modifies, upgrades, inspects, tests, adjusts, and repairs aircraft avionic and electrical systems, such as aircraft installed radar, radio, navigation, and power systems using hand tools and test equipment
  • Inspects components of avionic and electrical systems and equipment for defects, such as loose connections and frayed wire, and for accuracy of assembly and installation
  • Tests avionic and electrical systems under simulated or actual operating conditions to determine performance and airworthiness, using test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital meters and counters, and circuit analyzers
  • Using hand tools, adjusts, repairs, and/or replaces defective components based on analysis of test results, following blueprints, schematics, handbooks, and other technical documents
  • When required, calibrates installed, modified, or repaired systems and/or equipment to prescribed specifications
  • When required, operates ground servicing equipment to operationally test, inspect, and verify functionality and air worthiness of avionic and other electrical systems
  • When required, assist in fabricating wiring harnesses
  • Accurately document all required U.S. Government and program forms and documents, including electronic records
  • Must effectively interact with program and customer representatives as well as on-site business or military representatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you will need to be successful in this role:
  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
    • A Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of related experience in avionics or electro-environmental maintenance.
    • An Associate's degree plus 4 years of related experience in avionics or electro-environmental maintenance.
    • High School Diploma plus 8 years of related experience in avionics or electro-environmental maintenance.
  • F-16 experience is strongly preferred, but other fighter jet experience may be considered.
  • F-16 Electrical & Environmental (E&E) experience is strongly preferred.
  • At least a 7 Skill Level or equivalent is preferred.
  • 5th generation aircraft experience is a plus.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills are preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance is required. In order to obtain a Secret Clearance, US Citizenship is required.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift and carry parts, tooling, and other awkward items sometimes weighing greater than 50 lbs, including walking up and down stairs, aircraft maintenance stands, and platforms
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Positions may be 1st or 2nd shift, as needed.
