Job summary

Altium Packaging in Reidsville, NC is hiring an Extruder Operator / Prisma Sorting Operator for nights. You will operate, monitor, and maintain recycling extrusion and Prisma sorting equipment to ensure quality and safety, with a base pay of $21.00/hour plus $1.00/hour shift premium.

Work includes setting up equipment, tracking temperatures and pellet quality, performing changeovers, recording production data, and supporting continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree preferred.
• 2 years' experience as an extruder operator preferred.
• Apprenticeship or formal training in area of specialty preferred.
• Working knowledge of high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills.
• Basic English and math skills.
• Machine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
• Ability to work overtime.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods.
• Ability to recommend process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Set up, start up, operate, and shut down recycling extruders per SOPs.
• Monitor temperatures, pressures, melt quality, throughput, and pellet quality.
• Adjust processes to hit production and quality targets.
• Perform material changeovers and startup purges.
• Inspect pellets and finished products for defects.
• Record production data, downtime, quality checks, and material usage.
• Verify incoming material meets processing requirements.
• Conduct routine quality checks and document results.
• Segregate non-conforming material and notify supervision.
• Support continuous improvement to reduce contamination and waste.
• Wear PPE as required and follow Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

The Extruder Operator / Prisma Sorting Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining recycling process equipment, including Prisma optical sorting systems and plastic extrusion equipment. This position ensures material quality, production efficiency, safety compliance, and accurate documentation throughout the recycling process.

Responsibilities:

• Set up, start up, operate, and shut down recycling extruders according to standard operating procedures.
• Monitor temperatures, pressures, melt quality, throughput rates, and pellet quality.
• Make process adjustments to maintain production and quality targets.
• Perform material changeovers and startup purges.
• Inspect pellets and finished products for quality defects.
• Record production data, downtime, quality checks, and material usage.
• Verify incoming material meets processing requirements.
• Conduct routine quality checks and document results.
• Segregate non-conforming material and notify supervision.
• Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce contamination and waste.
• Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures before servicing equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Requirements:

• High school diploma, or equivalent (GED). Associate's degree, preferred
• 2 years' experience as an extruder operator, preferred
• Apprenticeshipand/or formal training in area of specialty, preferred
• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery & measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills
• Basic English & math skills
• Machine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance experience
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
• Ability to work overtime
• Physical stamina and strength/able to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to recommend process improvements

Temperatures inside the plant can fluctuate between hot and cold according to seasonal changes. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in the production department and other designated areas.
