Job summary

Abbott is seeking an Extraction Laboratory Technician II in Santa Rosa, CA, within the Toxicology Division. The role prepares specimens for routine drug testing according to SOPs and supports analytical workflows.

You will work with validated methods on instruments, ensuring accurate sample tracking and batch preparation while maintaining safety and compliance in a high‑throughput environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field.
  • Ability to work safely with biological specimens, chemicals, equipment, and instruments.
  • Experience with LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and follow written Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identify specimens scheduled for analysis and assemble batches as necessary.
  • Pour or pipette biological specimens and standards in varying volumes.
  • Prepare and/or extract analytes of interest for instrumental analysis.
  • Load prepared batches onto analytical instruments and run SOPs.
  • May create Hamilton batches for aliquots merged from different batches.
  • Maintain proper Chain of Custody batch documentation.
  • Communicate with supervisors and escalate challenges promptly.
  • Maintain a safe healthful environment for self and co-workers.

The position of Extraction Laboratory Technician II is within our Toxicology Division located in Santa Rosa, CA. This role will prepare specimens for routine drug testing following the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures.

What You'll Work On
  • Read, understand, and follow written Standard Operating Procedures
  • Correctly identify specimens scheduled for analysis and assemble batches as necessary
  • Pour or quantitatively pipette biological specimens and standards in varying volumes (forensic specimens)
  • Prepare and/or extract analytes of interest for subsequent instrumental analysis (forensic specimens)
  • Load prepared batches onto analytical instruments and initiate pre‑approved analytic runs following established SOPs
  • May create Hamilton batches for aliquots merged from different screening batches
  • Maintain proper and adequate Chain of Custody batch documentation
  • Communication with supervisors and prompt escalation of emerging challenges
  • Maintain and promote a safe healthful environment for self and co-workers
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field
  • The ability to work safely with biological specimens, chemicals, equipment, and instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with biological specimens and/or analytical instruments (LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS)
