THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Aging and Veterans Services Department is looking for motivated and skilled individuals to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customer service and food service, with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment. This role requires someone who takes initiative and demonstrates excellent people skills to attract and engage volunteers in meal service activities. Additionally, supervisory experience is preferred to provide guidance and support to our team.

THE POSITION

The Site Supervisor for Senior Meals coordinates activities at a Senior Meal Congregate Site including opening and setting up the site, planning and organizing activities, ensuring food meets serving requirements, serving and cleaning up meals, and closing site. The Site Supervisor for Senior Meals signs up new participants and obtains demographic information from visitors, explains program responsibilities; obtains meal counts and orders future meals, documents food arrival and temperature. The Site Supervisor for Senior Meals works with and manages volunteers.

  • Open and close the facility according to site requirements and within the allotted time.
  • Set up site, wipe off tables, make coffee, set out poster and voluntary contributions box, and prepare for the arrival of seniors.
  • Greet seniors and ensure both seniors and guests sign in, collect intake information from new participants, receive meal payments, and take reservations for the next meal.
  • Prepare for lunch, receive, record, and monitor temperatures of hot and cold food and milk. Set up food for serving, assign volunteer jobs, ensure service meets health and safety standards are met.
  • Clean up and maintain record keeping, including reporting attendance and meal counts for the day.
  • Call in meal reservations for next day and prepare injury/incident reports as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary site as required by local health codes.
  • Ensure the site phone is charged and on during your shift. Check for messages at the beginning, end and periodically throughout your shift.
  • Attend monthly staff meeting.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge
  • Nutritional, social, and medical needs and special problems of seniors.
  • Techniques of congregate meal service management.
  • Basic principles and methods of food service and storage.
  • Sanitary and safety procedures for serving food in an institutional setting.
  • Principles and techniques of planning, coordination, supervision and training.
  • Problems, needs, attitudes and behavior patterns of seniors.
  • Basic mathematical and recordkeeping

  • Accurately record food temperature, meal count, and other related data.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with diverse, multi-cultural, and disabled individuals.
  • Recognize problems and needs of clients and provide referral or assistance as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Supervise the work of volunteers.

Education/Experience
PATTERN I
  • One (1) year of experience in food service with some experience leading staff or volunteers.
PATTERN II
  • One (1) year of experience working with seniors in a paid or volunteer capacity.
PATTERN III
  • One (1) year of experience planning and coordinating activities, coordinating volunteers or working with the public.
License/Certification
  • Obtain and maintain a Serve Safe Food Handling Certification within sixty (60) days of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

  • Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
  • Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
  • Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months but may be extended up to eighteen months.

Note: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, part-time and full-time vacancies throughout Stanislaus County.

Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

Part-time extra help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.
