Position Summary

At Extivita, the Hyperbaric Technician role exists at the intersection of technical excellence, patient trust, and human dignity. This position is not simply about operating a hyperbaric chamber. It is about stewarding lives in vulnerable moments with calm presence, competence, and compassion.

The Hyperbaric Technician supports safe, coordinated, and effective multiplace hyperbaric oxygen therapy by stewarding pressure, oxygen, timing, communication, and safety for patients and team members.

As assigned and trained, the Hyperbaric Technician may serve in either the Inside Chamber Tender or Chamber Console Operator function during treatments. Working with another qualified team member, the technician helps provide end-to-end oversight of treatment delivery while maintaining clear role assignment, communication, and safety accountability for each dive.

This role requires technical discipline, situational awareness, calm decision-making, and clear communication, particularly under pressure.

Core Responsibilities
Pre-Treatment and Setup
  • Prepare, inspect, and verify chamber and console readiness prior to treatment.
  • Review treatment protocols and dive profiles per provider direction.
  • Set up and verify oxygen delivery, ventilation, and gas systems.
  • Assist patients with positioning, mask or hood fitting, and comfort.
  • Educate patients on expectations, communication signals, and safety procedures.
  • Confirm communication systems between the inside chamber and console.
  • Ensure logs, checklists, and documentation are complete.
During Treatment: Inside and Console Operations
  • Execute chamber pressurization and depressurization sequences.
  • Monitor pressure, depth, oxygen levels, ventilation, and treatment timing.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of patient conditions and the chamber environment.
  • Provide calm in-chamber support, reassurance, and coaching, including equalization and breathing protocols.
  • Maintain constant communication between the console and inside chamber.
  • Adjust treatment parameters as directed by medical protocol or emergent conditions.
Safety and Emergency Response
  • Monitor for signs of oxygen toxicity, barotrauma, patient distress, or equipment issues.
  • Serve as the primary responder inside the chamber or the command operator at the console during emergencies, as assigned.
  • Execute emergency procedures, including fire response or fire suppression, power failure, treatment pause, rapid decompression, medical emergency, and system failure protocols.
  • Maintain composure and clear direction during emergency situations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to hyperbaric safety standards and procedures.
Post-Treatment and Documentation
  • Assist with safe patient exit and post-treatment observation.
  • Complete treatment logs and compliance documentation.
  • Report deviations, incidents, or maintenance concerns.
  • Reset and prepare chamber systems for subsequent treatments.
Training, Mastery, and Development
Extivita does not simply assign individuals to this role. We develop disciplined professionals capable of safely managing both clinical support and technical operations.
Team members receive structured and ongoing training, with competency continually validated and excellence consistently reinforced. Our People First commitment drives us to invest intentionally in each team member’s professional, personal, and intellectual growth.
Training Areas
  • Hyperbaric physics, gas laws, and dive profile execution.
  • Chamber systems, console operations, valves, controls, and timing systems.
  • Oxygen delivery, exhaust, and ventilation management.
  • Patient monitoring, communication, and in-chamber care techniques.
  • Emergency response protocols, including fire, decompression, power failure, and medical emergencies.
  • Regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  • CPR/BLS certification support.
  • Ongoing drills, competency evaluations, and annual recertification.
  • Personal and professional development aligned with People First principles.

Mastery is expected. Competency is continuously validated. Excellence is trained and reinforced.

Who Thrives Here

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility and operational discipline.
  • Use clear, precise, and caring communication.
  • Respect safety, systems, and human life.
  • Show coachability and commitment to continual learning.
