Job summary

Peraton seeks a Cloud Software Engineer in Laurel, MD to join an integrated product development team. You will design, develop, test, and deploy features for a service hosted on large-scale compute clusters and AWS infrastructure.

You will work with LLM/RAG, AWS architecture, IaC, Java for distributed systems, and CI/CD, balancing cost, performance, and resilience while guiding junior engineers and ensuring security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of software development/engineering experience including requirements analysis, development, testing and maintenance.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required (or equivalent).
• Active TS/SCI clearance with current polygraph required.

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer in Laurel, MD.

This is a position on an integrated product development team. The candidate will have a primary focus of supporting all aspects of agile software design and development for a full featured service hosted on large scale compute clusters and AWS Cloud Infrastructure. Duties include design, development, testing and integration of capabilities, optimization & performance tuning, and operation & sustainment functions.

Competencies and Skills:

• Experience with Large Language Models (LLM) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Expertise in AWS Cloud Architecture design
• Proficiency in using AWS SDKs and APIs
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
• Expertise in Continuous Integration, Deployment, Testing and Monitoring practices
• Java programming for distributed systems, with experience in networking and multi-threading
• Agile development experience with source code management practices and tools
• Well-grounded in Linux fundamentals and knowledge in at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.)
• Familiarity with microservices software development techniques and container-orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of security and compliance best practices

As a Cloud Software Engineer, you are expected to perform requirements analysis, software design, development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution at a high level of proficiency and independence. You are expected to communicate directions and provide guidance to more junior programmer/analysts, as required. Cloud Software Engineers must be adept at developing solutions which balance cost, capability, availability and resilience. Additionally, Cloud Software Engineers may be responsible for evaluating project needs, determining tasks and durations, and generating and reviewing designs for technical accuracy, completeness.

Qualifications

• Shall have at least eight (8) years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a related technical field is required. An additional four (4) years of experience can be considered over the degree. NOTE: A degree in Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or similar degree will be considered as atechnical field.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required

One Cloud Developer Certification is required:

• AWS Certified Developer-Associate
• AWS DevOps Engineer Professional
• Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
• Elastic Certified Engineer

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
