Job Summary

The Extension Program Coordinator works as a team member with all Extension staff in responding to local requests for information and assisting with program delivery support.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • 4-H Program Duties Identifies critical priority needs and issues, with the assistance of other staff, to be addressed through 4-H programs. Facilitates the planning of educational activities in an assigned area in conjunction with other staff and volunteers: Oversee volunteer management of 4-H Shooting Sports program including recruiting, training, retention, and recognition; assist Shooting Sports Coordinator with event needs. Coordinate 4-H Fair enrollment and events with volunteers (including regular Show Committee meetings, Fair book creation, awards and sponsors,). Oversee 4-H Federation activities. Assist Educator in 4-H educational programs/curriculum workshops as requested. Coordinate project workshop series with volunteers (horse workshops, dog obedience training, etc.). Coordinate 4-H livestock project management (including tagging, tattooing, ethics tests, etc). Cross-trains with other McLean 4-H EPC’s to become familiar with all aspects of McLean 4-H. Assists with the development of marketing plans and goals to recruit participants for educational activities; develops advertising and publicity for the activities in conjunction with the Publicity and Promotion Specialist. Develops plans to involve volunteers in specific educational activities, which includes recruitment. Networks and/or collaborates with appropriate designated community organizations and groups with the 4-H YD Educator. Coordinates the logistics and activities for specific program-related tasks, such as travel arrangements, food, equipment, facilities, and other supplies. Assists in formulating and ensuring the implementation of standard operating procedures for program activities, including guidelines to ensure the safety and welfare of participants. Disseminates educational information provided by Extension professionals.
  • Data Reporting Assists the 4-H YD Educator in evaluating program activities, develop impact statements and recommend continuation, modification, or discontinuance of the program. Works with staff and volunteers to collect, process, and maintain program records and data. In conjunction with the 4-H YD Educator, prepare program reports. Submit contact reports monthly. Assists the 4-H Educator with the development and maintenance of financial support (i.e. grant writing and fundraising) for the conduct of the program activity. Complywith all University of Illinois Extension Workforce Equity/Equal Opportunitypolicies and guidelines in all aspects of Extension and Outreach work ~ assist,as requested, with data collection for Equal Employment and reporting
  • Other Duties Participates in staff development and professional development opportunities. Performs other duties as assigned by County Extension Director and 4-H Youth Development Educator.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various physical demands including ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements.

Work Schedule, Travel, or Other Job Expectations

To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends. This full-time, 12-month position in the McLean County office is available contingent upon annual funding.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or GED
Any one or any combination that equals four (4) years/ 48 months ofresponsible volunteer or professional work experience in coordinatingeducational and/or community programs or activities
Volunteer/work experience coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities
College coursework in any field of study
60 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
90 semester hours equals three (3) years (36 months)
120 semester hours or more equals four (4) years (48 months)

Specialty Factors

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement youth-focused educational programs. Working knowledge of youth development topics such as career readiness, leadership, health, volunteer management, natural resources, creative arts, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, present, and engage youth audiences in educational settings.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0929 - Extension Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. Salary is $43,000.
