Job summary

Minnesota Oncology is seeking a licensed practical nurse to join our team in Maple Grove. You will provide general nursing care, administer medications, and support physicians during exams and procedures.

Responsibilities include monitoring patients, recording vital data, instructing patients on medications, and initiating IV fluids per state guidelines. This role emphasizes compassionate patient care in an oncology/hematology clinic setting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
• At least 3 years of experience as a practical nurse; phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
• Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
• Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
• Administers prescribed medications as directed.
• Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
• Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN state nurse practice act.

Responsibilities

SCOPE:

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Promote efficient patient flow, assists with patient care. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides general nursing care to patients.
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
• Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
• Administers prescribed medications as directed.
• Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
• Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.
• Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
• Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
• Maintains patient files, records and other information.
• Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN state nurse practice act.

SALARY LEVEL:

$27-40

Qualifications
