Job summary

Vertiv is seeking an Express Bender Operator at the Great Lakes manufacturing facility to set up and operate automated bending equipment for metal components. You will interpret engineering drawings, verify dimensions, perform quality inspections, adjust settings, and support production goals while minimizing scrap and rework.

You will collaborate with production leadership, engineering, quality, maintenance, and other team members to ensure safe, efficient operations and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Express bending machines per work instructions.
  • Review drawings, blueprints, orders, BOMs and specs.
  • Load, position, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
  • Select and install tooling, programs, and machine settings.
  • Verify material type, dimensions, orientation, and job requirements.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and obtain approval before production.
  • Measure finished components with calipers and gauges.
  • Monitor performance and adjust for quality and efficiency.
  • Escalate defects or malfunctions to supervision or maintenance.
  • Document production records and quality data accurately.
  • Follow safety procedures and 5S lean practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and meet schedules.

Job Description

The Machine Operator sets up, operates, monitors, and maintains manufacturing equipment used to produce components in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and production schedules. This position performs equipment adjustments, product inspections, basic troubleshooting, and production documentation while supporting a safe, efficient, and quality-focused manufacturing environment.

Job Summary

The Express Bender Operator is responsible for setting up and operating automated bending equipment used to fabricate metal components for Vertiv products at the Great Lakes manufacturing facility. The position interprets engineering drawings, verifies dimensions and tolerances, performs quality inspections, adjusts equipment settings, and supports production goals while minimizing scrap and rework. The operator works closely with production leadership, engineering, quality, maintenance, and other manufacturing team members to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate Express bending machines and related metal fabrication equipment in accordance with established work instructions.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, bills of material, and product specifications.
  • Load, position, and unload materials safely and efficiently.
  • Select and install the appropriate tooling, programs, and machine settings for assigned production work.
  • Verify material type, dimensions, orientation, and job requirements before beginning production.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and obtain required approval before continuing the production run.
  • Measure finished components using calipers, tape measures, squares, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Monitor machine performance and make appropriate adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy, product quality, and production efficiency.
  • Identify defects, equipment malfunctions, tooling concerns, or process deviations and escalate them to the appropriate supervisor, quality representative, maintenance technician, or engineer.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, equipment cleaning, and basic troubleshooting within the scope of the position.
  • Complete production records, quality documentation, work orders, material transactions, and other required system entries accurately and on time.
  • Follow all safety procedures, machine guarding requirements, lockout and tagout procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S workplace organization and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Minimize scrap, rework, machine downtime, and material waste.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Communicate production status, quality concerns, and equipment issues during shift handoffs and daily production meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with production employees, team leads, supervisors, quality personnel, engineers, and maintenance personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development credential.
  • Ability to complete all required safety, quality, equipment operation, and job-specific training.
Preferred Requirements
  • Technical, vocational, or apprenticeship training in machining, metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Training or certification related to computer numerical control equipment, press brake operation, blueprint reading, or industrial measurement.
  • Powered industrial truck certification, when required for the assigned work area.
Requirements
  • One to three years of manufacturing, machine operation, press brake, automated bending, or metal fabrication experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of metal fabrication processes, tooling, machine setup, and equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including measurements, fractions, decimals, and unit conversions.
  • Ability to understand dimensions, angles, tolerances, and bend specifications.
  • Experience using calipers, tape measures, squares, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic machine adjustments and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to recognize product defects, equipment concerns, and unsafe operating conditions.
  • Basic computer skills necessary to operate machine interfaces and enter production information.
  • Ability to accurately complete production, quality, and material documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing work within established specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet production schedules.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision after completing required training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team-based manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work assigned shifts, overtime, or modified schedules based on business needs.
Physical & Environmental Demands

This position may require standing for extended periods, frequent bending and lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing repetitive tasks in a production environment.
