Job summary

Position Summary

The Applied Technology Services (ATS) Engineering staff provides engineering, testing, analysis, and risk assessment services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose, and solve complex technical problems. The staff provides consultation and advice to clients to proactively mitigate future issues by applying industry best practices in equipment specification, materials selection, maintenance strategies, and asset management. Services include inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, reliability evaluations, and advanced risk modeling of a wide variety of systems and components ranging from in-service concrete and hydroelectric turbine blades to transmission and distribution grid assets and distributed generation. Engineering staff develop and apply probabilistic models to evaluate asset condition, degradation mechanisms, and probability of failure, supporting data-driven decisions for reliability, resilience, and lifecycle management. The engineering staff partners with management in the creation of bid proposals and technical solutions for requested client work. The incumbents maintain knowledge of and adhere to all company and regulatory safety and quality processes and procedures.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $ 140,000

Bay Area Maximum: $ 238,000

Job Responsibilities
  • Mentor and direct a team or teams of engineers and engineering technicians with diverse backgrounds.
  • Independently develops and executes new practical solutions to highly complex problems.
  • Develops relationships within our partner functional areas to assess client business interests and to identify potential ATS opportunities
  • Continually identifies and executes business, lab, testing, or process improvements.
  • Leads and manages projects and programs independently which includes developing and executing on innovative, novel, and complex solutions with high financial impact to PG&E and/or the client by taking ownership of scope, schedule, budget and communications.
  • Oversees assembly of technical systems and prototypes according to engineering standards and knowledge of related principles.
  • Is recognized as a subject matter expert in one discipline or type of ATS service and offers breadth of knowledge and performs analysis and executes projects across several disciplines and functional areas to include developing test plans and procedures from scratch as well as applying expertise to successfully function in lab, field, and desktop applications.
  • May provide expert opinion or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies or other parties.
  • Recognized outside the company as an expert on a particular engineering/technical field or discipline. Represents PG&E and speaks at conferences or seminars. May write articles in trade journals. Influences industry developments.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations and recommendations to clients based on project results/findings. Capable of adjusting message for variety of audiences from field operations to senior leadership
  • Exercises independent judgment in leading and resolving problems of large impact, scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources.
  • Leads team determining scope, schedule, budget and preparing client bid proposals at project and program levels. Furthermore, they are capable of managing a BU budget
  • Assesses business conditions, identifies opportunities, and develops projects & solutions from a multifunctional or multidisciplinary perspective.
  • Modifies prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations. Continually identifies testing or process improvements.
  • Develops, evaluates and deploys new technologies. Identifies innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
  • Develops advanced probabilistic risk models to quantify asset health, degradation, and failure probability across complex grid infrastructure using engineering physics, statistics, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Leads failure probability and consequence modeling for critical grid assets, applying stochastic processes, Bayesian analysis, survival modeling, and machine learning to assess evolving reliability risks.
  • Creates advanced asset risk analytics frameworks that convert condition, performance, and reliability data into actionable failure predictions supporting investment and lifecycle decisions.
