Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, seeks an Experimental Quantum Scientist to grow projects in quantum information science, designing, controlling, and scaling qubit systems alongside a team of experimental and theoretical physicists.

You will lead independent research on novel quantum devices and techniques, collaborate across groups, and contribute to ongoing programs with immediate impactful efforts in quantum characterization and control.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 2+ years of post-doctoral experimental experience with quantum systems.
• Proven record of research accomplishments and publications in quantum science.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to sponsor sites, conferences and workshops.
• Eligible for U.S. citizenship and able to obtain security clearance (Interim Secret, TS/SCI+poly).

Responsibilities

• Propose and lead independent research projects on novel quantum devices, controls, or characterization techniques.
• Collaborate with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions.
• Support ongoing programs by contributing to quantum characterization, control, and error protection in qubit systems.
