Job summary

Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia, PA is seeking an Experimental CNC Machinist who will set up, operate, and maintain CNC centers to produce precision aerospace components.

You will read blueprints, verify NC programs, inspect parts with precision tools, and participate in process improvements in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment with occasional overtime.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD data, and technical drawings.

  • Understand G and M code used in CNC machining.
  • Experience with Mazatrol CNC controls.
  • Use precision measuring tools to inspect parts.
  • Work on a 9x80 schedule with overtime and rotating Fridays.
  • Able to work in a production environment with flexible shifts.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers.
  • Machine parts using drilling, milling, boring, tapping operations.
  • Interpret CAD data, blueprints, sketches, and operation sheets.
  • Verify NC programs during machine operation.
  • Select and adjust cutting tools and setups.
  • Inspect parts during and after machining with precision tools.
  • Perform secondary operations like deburring and straightening.
  • Maintain coolant levels and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Provide feedback to engineers to improve tooling and processes.
  • Track machining performance and communicate production targets.
  • Support flexible scheduling including overtime, weekends, and alternate shifts.

As an Experimental CNC Machinist, you will set up, operate, and maintain CNC machining centers to produce precision parts to engineering specifications. You will interpret technical drawings, verify machining programs, inspect finished components, and support continuous improvement of machining processes. This role supports production operations in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers
  • Machine parts using drilling, milling, boring, tapping, and related operations
  • Interpret CAD data, blueprints, sketches, and operation sheets to guide machining work
  • Verify and monitor NC (G-code) programs during machine operation
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools and machine setups as needed
  • Inspect parts during and after machining using precision measurement tools
  • Perform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during machine cycles
  • Maintain coolant levels and perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Provide feedback to manufacturing engineers to improve tooling, fixturing, and processes

The information below reflects the standard job description for this position: Plans the layout, fabrication, and testing of mechanical devices; sets up and operates any type of precision machine tool to make original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices for experimental purposes. May be required to solve problems relative to work-holding arrangement, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods for production process. Normally performs precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions for research engineers in a developmental laboratory condition. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Basic Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must meet all requirements listed:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD data, and technical drawings
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC machining equipment or machining centers
  • Understanding of G&M code used in CNC machining
  • Experience with Mazatrol CNC controls
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gages, etc.) to inspect parts
  • Ability to work on a 9x80 schedule, including overtime, rotating Fridays off, and weekend work as needed
  • Ability to work in a production environment with varying shift requirements and schedule flexibility
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Desired Skills

Nice-to-have skills that strengthen candidacy but are not required:

  • Experience with either DMG (CELOS) or Siemens 840D control systems
  • Experience with 5-axis machining centers (milling & turning)
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $47100.00 - $87500.00
