Job summary

Compass Connections in Fairfield, CA is seeking an Experiential Life Skills Training Coordinator to lead youth life skills programs, oversee staff activities, and coordinate community-based resources. The role focuses on safety, structure, and positive outcomes for children ages 5–17.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (Bachelor’s preferred in behavioral sciences or related field) and at least one year of relevant supervisory or teaching experience, plus First Aid/CPR.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services fields.
  • At least 1 year of progressive employment experience demonstrating supervisory, training, case management, or teaching experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • First aid and CPR certifications.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background checks are required.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Design individualized, age-appropriate life skills plans for children ages 5 through 17.
  • Develop and maintain a Monthly Activity Calendar for children with the foster care school team.
  • Coordinate volunteer and church group activities with Program Director approval.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment needed to provide experiential life skills.
  • Participate in community and staff meetings and assist with events and reports.
  • Track and provide educational information for quarterly reports.
  • Use positive child management techniques and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Document children’s progress in activities and provide updates.
  • Implement safety protocols including evacuations when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Travel daily between locations.
  • Meet deadlines and reporting requirements.

Experiential Life Skills Training Coordinator

Hourly Rate: $21.84 an hour.

Language Requirement: Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm

Academic Requirement: Required – High school diploma; Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services fields

Certifications: First aid, CPR, Emergency behavior intervention

Work Experience: Required – At least one (1) year of progressive employment experience in the aforementioned fields that demonstrates supervisory, training, case management, or teaching experience

Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables
  1. Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
  2. Design individualized, age-appropriate life skills plans for children ages 5 through 17.
  3. In collaboration with the foster care school team, develop and maintain a Monthly Activity Calendar for children.
  4. Coordinate volunteer and church group participation and activities with outside resources and with Program Director approval.
  5. Maintain an inventory and purchase as necessary the supplies and equipment needed to provide experiential life skills to children.
  6. Participate in community and staff meetings and as a member of the school program staff assist with meetings, special events, support groups and other activities.
  7. Track and provide educational information and statistics for quarterly reports.
  8. Use positive child management techniques including verbal redirection and de-escalation, and positive reinforcement.
  9. Maintain safe and orderly learning environment for children.
  10. Document children’s process in activities and provide updates during weekly, monthly meetings or reports as needed.
  11. Implement Compass Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
  12. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.
  13. Maintain Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, clients, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and re-evaluate the life skills needs of the service population.
  2. Develop, schedule and present life skills curriculum that meet the needs of the service population.
  3. Research and network with community providers to continually expand the resources necessary to effectively deliver life skills training.
  4. Travel from one location to another daily.
  5. Meet predetermined deadlines and reporting requirements for the position.
Requirements
  1. Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  2. Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  3. Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  4. Demonstrate skills in providing effective, hands-on leadership.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of current educational best practices for service population.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to:
    • Work effectively with Compass Connections leadership, Compass Connections Executive Director, and funding source entities.
    • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
    • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
    • Work in a fast-paced environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
    • Organize and prioritize responsibilities and duties efficiently.
    • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
    • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards.
