Job summary

H&R Block seeks an experienced tax professional for a seasonal role in Roanoke Rapids, NC. You will prepare complete, accurate returns for individuals and small businesses, interview clients to understand their financial situations, and offer personalized tax-saving recommendations using our training and tools.

You’ll build strong client relationships, provide IRS notice support when needed, and collaborate with a friendly office team to deliver confident service throughout the tax season.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment1.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping, including preparing individual and business returns.
• Experience working in a client facing, consultative, or advisory role.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language.
• Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements.
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent required.

• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credential
• Experience completing complex returns, tax planning, audit support, or tax notice resolution
• Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax software
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)
• Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role (financial advising, insurance, or professional services)
