Job summary

H&R Block is seeking a seasonal Experienced Tax Professional to prepare complete, accurate tax returns for clients with diverse situations and to conduct in-depth client interviews to understand finances and life changes. You will provide personalized, consultative recommendations and identify tax savings opportunities while delivering empathetic service.

You will also offer IRS support, audit guidance, and collaborate with team members to maintain a positive, client-focused office environment.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment
• Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
• Experience in a client-facing, consultative, or advisory role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to explain tax concepts to clients
• Must complete continuing education and meet IRS/state requirements
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent required

This role is in-person at a local H&R Block tax office.

• Prepare complete, accurate tax returns for clients with diverse and complex tax situations, including individual and business returns
• Conduct in-depth client interviews to understand financial situations, life changes, and tax implications — then provide clear, personalized recommendations
• Build trusted client relationships by delivering empathetic, consultative service and identifying tax savings opportunities and relevant H&R Block products

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment1
• Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping, including preparing individual and business returns
• Experience working in a client facing, consultative, or advisory role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language
• Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent required

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, bookkeeping
• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credential
• Experience completing complex returns, tax planning, audit support, or tax notice resolution
• Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax software
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)
• Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role (financial advising, insurance, or professional services)
