Job summary

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, seeks an Experienced Roadway Engineer to join our Transportation team in Columbia, MD (also Herndon, VA and Washington, DC).

The role includes designing roadways from feasibility through final design, producing plans, specs and estimates, and creating 3D models with MicroStation and ORD/OpenRoads Designer. A PE license is required; MD PE or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
• At least 4 years of relevant roadway design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Maryland PE or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway design from feasibility studies through final design
• Develop plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation projects
• Produce roadway alignments, profiles, typical sections, cross sections, and 3D models
• Prepare quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and design reports
• Develop and review plan sets and associated design documents
• Utilize MicroStation and ORD/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D for design and plans production
• Participate in design meetings and coordinate with project team members
• Serve as roadway task or project lead and grow toward project management

Responsibilities include:

• Performing roadway design from feasibility studies through final design
• Developing plans, specifications, and estimates for a wide range of transportation improvement projects
• Producing roadway alignments, profiles, typical sections, cross sections, and 3D models
• Preparing quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and design reports
• Developing and reviewing plan sets and associated design documents
• Utilizing MicroStation and InRoads/ OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D for design, modeling and plans production
• Participating in design meetings and coordinating with project team members
• Serving as roadway task or project lead, as needed.
• Growing technical and leadership skills with the opportunity to advance into a Project Manager role
• Other duties as assigned

A valid driver's license and some travel will be required.

The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
• At least 4 years of relevant roadway design experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Maryland PE or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

• MicroStation and Bentley InRoads/ OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
• Experience with technical aspects of Roadway Design
• Experience with MDOT policies and procedures
• MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Project)
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills

Salary Range: $91,000-$120,000 (annual) - Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
