Summary

The Clinical Staff Nurse acts as a champion of quality patient care and a professional caregiver who demonstrates critical thinking skills and scientific judgment in anticipating and planning for the care of patients in assigned areas. The Clinical Staff Nurse performs competent nursing practice and consistently demonstrates the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The role upholds high standards of professional performance, including ethics, cultural diversity, communication, collaboration, evidence‑based practice, nursing research, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. The nursing practice aligns with the JHS CARE Model, holding accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Implements and coordinates the delivery of care in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare staff, utilizing the nursing process.
• Documents all pertinent information regarding nursing care, care plans, and observations; accounts for narcotics and emergency equipment on each tour of duty.
• Maintains a working knowledge of facility infection control procedures.
• Recognizes, questions, and reports significant patient findings and/or inconsistencies in orders or treatment regimes.
• Collaborates and seeks corrective action.
• Selects and individualizes or updates clinical procedures, protocols, standards, clinical pathways, plans of care, narcotic policies, and discharge/teaching plans.
• Completes and submits patient/unit charges.
• Recognizes and prioritizes overt or convert unit needs/problems, implementing corrective action independently.
• Assumes charge nurse role when assigned, supervises designated personnel, and takes action as needed.
• Applies logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems.
• Provides functional direction and assistance to LPNs, CNAs, or MAs, and completes new staff orientation as assigned.
• Makes rounds on a timely basis to ensure continuity of care and maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
• Follows and performs all related unit-specific policies and procedures, detailed on the unit-specific competency check‑list.
• Utilizes job and unit-specific equipment as required.

Experience

• Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.
• At least two years of Critical Care RN experience is highly preferred.

Education

• Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.
• BSN degree is preferred.

Credentials

• Valid Florida RN license is required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire, with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
