Job summary

Transco Rail Services, a Marmon Holdings company, is hiring skilled railcar technicians to inspect and repair freight and tank cars across North America. You’ll ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, and customer specs, perform mechanical repairs, and weld as needed.

A strong safety mindset and ability to work in varied environments is essential. Candidates should have railcar repair experience, read engineering drawings, and be willing to travel nationwide.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with railcar repair and knowledge of FRA/AAR requirements.
  • Ability to learn railcar drawings and read specs.
  • Welding or railcar maintenance experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance with FRA, AAR and customer requirements.
  • Perform repairs using current safety and quality standards.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on tank and hopper cars when required.
  • Occasionally perform welding repairs and coordinate repairs efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean work area and report hazards to supervision.
  • Provide accurate invoicing, inspections and work order information.
  • Participate in safety assessments and follow all safety rules.

Transco Rail Services, along with Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) and Procor, delivers full‑service railcar repair and maintenance through a broad North American network of fixed shops and mobile field service teams. Serving freight and tank car fleets across multiple industries, we are committed to safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service.

Tank Car Experience Required - Preferably 2yrs Some travel may be required Tank Qualification experience is a plus

Responsibilities
  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
  • Perform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair procedures
  • Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when required
  • Occasionally performing welding repairs when needed
  • Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards
  • Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
  • Interact well with team members and supervision
  • Meet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best‑in‑class customer experience
  • Ensure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and complete
  • Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
  • Follow all safety rules and practices
  • May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrate job‑related knowledge including following written instructions
  • Demonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
  • Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtime
  • Ability to learn basic railcar knowledge
  • Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
  • Ability to pass DOT Requirements is a plus
  • Ability to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permits
  • Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
  • Ability to obtain the following within 6 - 12 months (timeline and required test depend on specific location): Welding and Airbrake Test certifications
  • Any type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is a preferred
  • Must be legal to work in the United State now and in the future without sponsorship requirements
Environmental and Working Conditions

The physical environment for this job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, or dry and dusty conditions. The employee may be frequently exposed to heights that require the use of fall protection equipment. Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions and job function details dictate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Moderate to heavy physical effort involved, must be comfortable lifting 35lbs consistently Lifts and carries necessary equipment to railcar to perform work Safely climbs, walks, and balances on top of railcars while performing repair work Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
