Job summary

ThompsonMcMullan, P.C. in Richmond, VA is seeking a paralegal to join our Shockoe Slip office. The role supports litigation, elder law, estate planning, and guardianship matters, coordinating case progression from intake to closing with a focus on client communication and accuracy.

Responsibilities include drafting documents, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance. The position is full-time, in-office with standard hours and potential travel as needed.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years paralegal experience, preferably in litigation or elder law, estate planning, probate, or special needs planning.
• Guardianship experience preferred.
• Experience drafting legal documents with high accuracy; familiarity with estate planning documents and guardianship pleadings.
• Excellent client service, confidentiality, and professional communication.
• Experience with real estate law (deed drafting, title reviews, ownership/lien searches).
• Experience scheduling with Clerks’ offices and Judges’ chambers.
• Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, NetDocuments, TABS/Practice Master, and LexisNexis/Westlaw.
• Virginia Notary Public commission or willingness to obtain one.
• Ability to travel locally to client sites or court locations.
• Flexibility to meet practice needs.
• Lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for clients, courts, and professionals; coordinate case progression from intake through closing.
• Prepare legal documents, court pleadings, and probate filings; maintain accurate case and client records.
• Ensure timely communication with clients, courts, and professionals; support regulatory compliance.
• Maintain accurate client and matter data in the firm’s case management systems (TABS/Practice Master/NetDocuments).
