Job description

Enter WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for our project locations in the states of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization that is solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.

This Opportunity
  • Supports a wide range of testing and commissioning activities through application of client testing standards, industry standards (IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NESC), and manufacturer recommendations
  • Works under limited supervision, independently executing moderately complex assignments, and contributing to regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and data integrity across active job sites
  • Provides day-to-day support to field teams, helps resolve challenges on-site, and mentors junior technicians to promote quality, efficiency, and safe work practices

Your Impact
  • Perform assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
  • Perform on-site hands‑on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested are SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60 among others
  • Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities
  • Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed
  • Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects
  • Escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project manager
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols
    Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team
  • May review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed
  • Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries
    Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards
  • Assist in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities and report observations to field leadership
  • Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
  • Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes
  • Technical skills related to protective relays include relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor‑based protective relays
  • Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards
  • Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers
  • Experience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data review
  • Experience with reading and understanding electrical drawings
  • Ability to identify routine field challenges and equipment issues, responding within established procedures and escalating atypical conditions
  • Skilled in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports
  • Physical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions
  • Experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineers
  • Demonstrated commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills for field team collaboration
  • Capable of critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results
  • Capability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environments
  • Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and maintain accountability in the field
  • Commitment to continued learning and development in technical field services
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environments
  • Competent self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Reliable, punctual, with the ability to work independently or with a team
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
  • Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays
  • Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers
  • Current OSHA 30‑hour or 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification
