Job summary

SMS group Valparaiso workshop is seeking an experienced mechanic/millwright to refurbish and repair blast furnace equipment. You will perform mechanical duties, disassemble and recondition parts, and test equipment in a hands-on environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of refurbishment experience, strong tool skills, and the ability to read prints and drawings. This full-time position offers a reliable schedule, negotiable pay based on experience, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience (10+ years preferred) with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is required
• Ability to read prints and drawings is required
• Knowledge of overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques is required
• Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy is required
• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies is preferred
• Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred
• Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred
• Understanding of blast furnace equipment is a plus
• Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

• Remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods of time
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Schedule

• Full-Time, 8-hour shift
• Monday to Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm, or 7:00am - 3:30pm with 30 minutes for lunch
