DataLinks is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Technician to oversee and execute the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of structured cabling systems within mission-critical data center environments. The Lead Technician serves as the on-site technical leader, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with DataLinks quality standards, customer requirements, and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership abilities, extensive experience with copper and fiber optic cabling systems, and the ability to coordinate crews while maintaining a hands-on role in project delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise field technicians during data center infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate daily work activities to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact between DataLinks, customers, contractors, and project management.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with company and customer safety requirements.
- Mentor, train, and develop junior technicians and installers.
Technical Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and certify structured cabling systems including:
- Single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling
- Cat6, Cat6A, and other copper cabling systems
- Backbone and horizontal cabling infrastructure
- Install and dress network, server, and telecommunications equipment within cabinets and racks.
- Conduct cable labeling and administration in accordance with customer and industry standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, rack elevations, Cutsheets and construction drawings.
Quality Control
- Ensure all installations meet DataLinks quality standards, customer standards and industry specifications.
- Perform and review copper and fiber certification testing results.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, redlines, and closeout packages.
- Verify that all work is completed according to project scope and customer expectations.
- Identify and resolve technical issues before project completion.
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain strict adherence to OSHA regulations and customer site safety requirements.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safe work practices are maintained at all times.
- Participate in company safety programs and ongoing training initiatives.
- Support compliance with data center security and access procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or data center infrastructure.
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading installation teams.
Strong knowledge of:
- Fiber optic cabling systems
- Industry standards including TIA/EIA and BICSI practices
- Experience working in active, mission-critical data center environments.
- Ability to read and interpret project drawings, cutsheets, and specifications.
- Proficiency with fiber and copper testing equipment.
- Strong organization, communication, and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office365 to include Outlook, Excel, and Teams
Preferred Qualifications
- BICSI Technician (TECH), Installer, or equivalent certification.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Fiber optic certification (FOA, Corning, CommScope, or similar).
- Experience with data center migrations, deployments, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Knowledge of structured cabling project management and documentation software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and active construction environments.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours when project schedules require.
