Job summary

CST Mechanical, Inc. in Hampton, VA is seeking a Pipefitter to perform lay out, fabrication, assembly, installation and maintenance of piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and other commercial HVAC systems.

The position requires a minimum of five years of pipefitter experience, OSHA 10 certification, and availability to work nights and weekends. Candidates should have working knowledge of trade materials and tools and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years pipefitter experience.
• Working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.

• Must be able to work nights and weekends.
• Good driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

• Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment according to job specifications.
• Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions.
• Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other trades.
• Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, grinder, and pipe cutting machine.
• Threads pipe using threading machine.
• Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe.
• Assembles and installs metal or nonmetal pipes and fittings using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or welded joints.
• Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools.
• Installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems including pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, and hydronic piping.
• Tests piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges.
• Welds pipe supports to structural steel members.
• Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Assists in lifting, positioning and securing material during installation.
• Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Observes safety rules and uses respiratory protection when required.
