Total Energy Solutions is seeking a highly skilled, dependable, and self-motivated Experienced Generator Service Technician (Level III) to support commercial and industrial power generation equipment throughout the Jackson–Meridian, Mississippi service area.

This is a remote, field-based position, requiring an experienced technician who can independently manage daily service assignments, diagnose complex generator issues, and deliver exceptional customer service with minimal supervision.

We are looking for a true generator troubleshooter—not someone whose experience is limited to routine preventive maintenance. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands‑on experience with diesel and natural gas generators, advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, proficiency with generator diagnostic software, and the ability to take ownership of service calls from start to finish.

Candidates must already reside in or within reasonable driving distance of the Jackson–Meridian, Mississippi service area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently troubleshoot, maintain, repair, install, commission, and service commercial and industrial diesel and natural gas generators.
  • Diagnose generator controllers, engine management systems, voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and related electrical and mechanical components.
  • Utilize manufacturer‑specific diagnostic and communication software to connect to generator controllers, retrieve fault histories, monitor operating parameters, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical service manuals.
  • Manage daily field service assignments, coordinate customer visits, and complete work independently.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, load‑bank testing, generator startups, and emergency repairs.
  • Troubleshoot alternators, wiring, switches, batteries, control systems, and other generator components.
  • Complete detailed electronic service reports, including findings, equipment readings, photographs, and repair recommendations.
  • Maintain regular communication with service management, dispatch, and customers.
  • Maintain assigned service vehicle, tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Respond to emergency service calls during assigned on‑call periods, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable industry standards.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5–10 years of hands‑on experience servicing and repairing commercial or industrial generators.
  • Advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of generator controllers, engine management systems, ATS operation, and load‑bank testing.
  • Experience independently diagnosing and repairing complex generator failures beyond routine preventive maintenance.
  • Proficiency using laptops, diagnostic applications, email, and electronic service reporting systems.
  • Ability to connect to generator controllers using communication cables, adapters, and manufacturer‑specific software.
  • Ability to retrieve, interpret, and troubleshoot controller alarms, fault codes, event histories, and operating data.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving, time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accountability, and follow‑through.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in the field.
  • Dependable availability for emergency on‑call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned service territory.
  • Must currently reside in or reasonably close to the Jackson–Meridian, Mississippi area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, MTU, or similar industrial generator manufacturers.
  • Experience with Cummins InPower, Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET), Generac diagnostic tools, or comparable generator communication software.
  • Experience troubleshooting generator paralleling systems, switchgear, and load‑sharing applications.
  • Experience supporting hospitals, healthcare facilities, data centers, or other critical power environments.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 110 and NFPA 70E.
  • EGSA certification or manufacturer‑specific technical training/certifications.
What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate is a seasoned generator service professional who is comfortable working independently in the field and has the technical expertise to diagnose and resolve complex equipment failures.

This position requires more than routine maintenance experience. We need someone who understands generator electrical and mechanical systems, can confidently utilize modern diagnostic software, and has a demonstrated history of troubleshooting and repairing commercial and industrial power generation equipment.

This position is remote/field-based with frequent travel throughout the assigned service territory. Standard working hours are generally 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with overtime as needed and required participation in an after‑hours emergency on‑call rotation.

Physical demands may include prolonged standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment and materials. Work may take place in shop environments and at customer sites under varying environmental conditions.
