Job summary

Intertek in Hillside, Illinois, is seeking an experienced Field Testing Technician to join the Building Science Solutions team. You will support field testing projects, perform building envelope inspections and forensic investigations, and coordinate reporting with project teams.

The role requires climbing and lifting, daily local travel, and a commitment to safety and quality. A high school diploma or GED is required, with 5+ years in commercial construction preferred; associate degree a plus.

Experienced Field Testing Technician – Hillside, Illinois

What are we looking for?

As a Field Testing Technician, you will assistwith field testing projects, building inspections and forensic investigations of building envelope failures. We’re looking for a candidate who is familiar with building enclosures including wall cladding systems, curtain wall, window and door systems, waterproofing, roofing, etc.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage for this position is $32-45 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

Shift/Schedule:

Monday – Friday 6AM-4PM (hours may vary) with daily travel

What you’ll do:

• Field testing projects as assigned
• Forensic investigations of building envelope failures
• Communicate with project team regarding site observations, test preparation, procedures, results, and reporting matters
• Prepare and submit accurate and concise reports on all projects assigned
• Provide project coordination including planning, scheduling, execution and reporting
• Consistent and professional interaction and communication with clients and project team

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 5+ years’ experience with commercial construction, working building exteriors, envelope installer, roofing and/or commercial carpentry
• Ability to work from elevated platforms (ladders, boom-lifts, roof levels, scaffolding, etc.)
• Aptitude for working independently on assigned projects
• General computer skills – Microsoft Office & Outlook
• Ability to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull as needed
• Willingness to travel daily to local job sites
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

• Associate degree in a technical field preferred
• Working knowledge of test methods and standards associated with testing of these systems or the ability to learn and comprehend these standards
• Technical competency and ability to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers, both in writing and orally
• Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet changing priorities and strict deadlines
