EXPERIENCED EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. (GOH), a leader in heavy highway construction since 1952, is seeking experienced equipment operators. GOH equipment operators operate heavy, material‑moving construction equipment to excavate, prepare, maintain, and/or repair civil and heavy highway-related projects. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Safely operate heavy equipment in and among live traffic and in a safe and effective manner.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks/procedures, as well as equipment lubrication.
- Wear personal protective equipment.
- Meet performance and technical standards.
- Comply with company quality control standards and procedures.
- Provide guidance and encouragement to promote teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.
- Read grade stakes and use a level.
- Assist with approved loading and tie-down procedures.
- Complete required paperwork including Operator's Daily Report.
- Perform manual labor such as digging or shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material, or other manual tasks.
- Communicate with Equipment Manager, Shop Superintendent, Leaders, customers, and peers regarding equipment and job-related issues.
- Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
- Work more than 40 hours per week, including nights, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisors.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
Knowledge of:
- OSHA safe trenching regulations
- Utility installation
- Heavy construction equipment operation
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Construction operations
- Construction drawings, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and specifications
- Soils, aggregate fill materials, bases, mixing, and compacting techniques
- Quality control standards and procedures
- Preferred knowledge of GPS/LPS for respective machines
Ability to:
- Recognize problems or errors at the work site related to the position.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect issues.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Learn and adhere to GOH policies and procedures.
- Work with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- Must be prompt, reliable, and dependable.
- Must possess a valid driver's license for your state with an acceptable driving record per company standards.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certificate or degree in Heavy Equipment Operation or related field preferred.
Experience: Relevant experience may qualify applicants for Equipment Operator levels 1 through 4.
Physical Requirements:
- Work in field environments with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and vibration (67-100%).
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Climb in and out of equipment safely and operate controls precisely.
- Wear personal protective equipment consistently.
- Work in extreme weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Bend, sit, stoop, and stand for long periods.
- Perform manual labor such as shoveling frequently.
- Sit for prolonged periods and take unscheduled breaks as needed.
