Job summary
Burns & McDonnell in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join project teams delivering world-class designs for a range of facilities including industrial, airports, healthcare and governmental projects.
You will design from conceptual phase through design completion, review drawings, update CAD work, perform field measurements and support client presentations, with emphasis on compliance and practical problem-solving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 3 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited program with FE exam and 3 years of experience.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 2 years of experience.
- 5 years of electrical engineering and consulting experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in electrical engineering calculation and production platforms (e.g. Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP and lighting design/calculation software such as Visual, Dialux, AGi32 or ElumTools).
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
- Review production drawings for process, industrial, airports, commercial, and governmental/military facilities.
- Design electrical components per project manager requirements.
- Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Research and compile project data for managers.
- Update CAD drawings and verify corrections across CAD tools.
- Prepare information for client presentations and contract administration.
- Conduct field inspections and measurements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The experienced Electrical Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including process, corporate, airports, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The experienced Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Perform electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: process facilities, industrial facilities, airports, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
Design electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Applies strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of process, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience required. Consulting experience preferred. OR
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of electrical engineering experience required. Consulting experience preferred. Or
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience required. Consulting experience preferred.
5 years of electrical engineering and consulting experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Must be proficient in electrical engineering calculation and production platforms (i.e. Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP and lighting design/calculation software such as Visual, Dialux, AGi32 or ElumTools).
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
$115,000.00-230,000.00 Yearly
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
