Job summary

Napleton's Schaumburg Buick GMC in Illinois is seeking an experienced Automotive Journeyman Technician to join our service team. This is a Local 701 Union shop; union membership is required and compensation aligns with experience.

You will diagnose and repair vehicles to factory standards, supervise apprentices, and participate in ongoing factory training. This in-person role offers a stable schedule in a family‑owned dealer group dating back to 1931.

Qualifications

• ASE Certification preferred; union shop environment.
• Minimum 1 year automotive mechanical experience.
• Minimum 1 year diagnostics experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions.

Responsibilities

• Receive repair orders and manage workflow to stall area.
• Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs to factory standards.
• Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts and document work.
• Road-test vehicles when required and ensure customer vehicles are not used for personal errands.
• Supervise apprentice technicians and attend factory training classes.
• Keep shop area clean and account for tools; follow safety policies.
• Notify service advisor if additional work is not needed or cannot be completed.

Experienced Automotive Journeyman Technician

Napleton's Schaumburg Buick GMC is looking for an experienced Automotive Journeyman Technician to join our service team. Responsibilities

• Receive repair orders from dispatcher and take to stall area
• Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
• Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform the appropriate repair
• Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts
• Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer
• Examine vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is required
• Notify the service advisor immediately if additional work is not needed or repairs cannot be completed within the time promised
• Document all work performed accurately and in a timely fashion
• Road‑test vehicles when required; customer vehicles are never to be used for personal errands
• Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned
• Attend factory‑sponsored training classes and stay current on factory technical bulletins
• Keep the shop area neat and clean and account for all dealership‑owned tools at all times
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures and immediately report all accidents to a manager or supervisor

Preferred Skills & Experience

• ASE Certification preferred
• Dealership experience preferred
• Minimum 1 year of automotive mechanical experience (required)
• Minimum 1 year of automotive diagnostics experience (required)
• General mechanical skills and the ability to read and comprehend instructions

Additional Information

This is a Local 701 Union shop and union membership is required. Guaranteed 40‑hour pay week at rate commensurate with experience level. We are a drug‑free work environment.
