Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalence.
  • 3+ years automation technician experience in petroleum/chemical industry.
  • Willing to work 14/14 offshore rotation, 12-hour shifts, including nights & holidays.
  • Successful completion of post-offer drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, and capacity exam.
  • Basic troubleshooting of pneumatic/electronic instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of control and safety systems; ability to perform predictive failure analysis.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, repair and optimize automation and control systems offshore.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for process control, safety, instrumentation, and SCADA/automation systems.
  • Support automation equipment including DCS, HMI/SCADA, PLCs and field instrumentation.
  • Review trends to determine optimal performance and reliability improvements.
  • Utilize SAP to create work orders for inventory and planning.
  • Coordinate with engineers and contractors to keep equipment at peak efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Chevron Operational Excellence standards.

Position Summary

The Chevron Gulf of America (GOA) Business Unit's Deepwater Operations is accepting online applications for the position of Experienced Automation Technician rotating out of Galliano, LA through November 1st, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). This position will assume the responsibility of safely monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing and optimizing a wide array of electrical and electronic equipment associated with offshore oil and gas production operations. A key aspect will be ensuring all electrical, process & rotating equipment operates at peak reliability and efficiency by reviewing trends to determine optimal performance. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Actively support Health, Environment, and Safety processes by accomplishing daily activities within applicable regulations and policies, carrying out duties in an environmentally conscious manner, following safe operating practices, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to respond to an environmental or safety event. Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, maintain, and optimize automation and control systems associated with offshore oil and gas production operations. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process control, safety, instrumentation, communications, and automation systems. Support and maintain a wide array of automation equipment and technologies, including but not limited to: Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Yokogawa DCS platforms Emerson DeltaV DCS Human Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA Applications FactoryTalk View AVEVA InTouch (formerly Wonderware InTouch) AVEVA ArchestrA System Platform Other HMI, visualization, and supervisory control applications Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix platforms GE PLC systems Associated I/O and remote automation equipment Field Instrumentation and Analyzers Pressure transmitters Level transmitters Flow measurement devices Temperature instrumentation Process analyzers Associated signal conditioning and control devices Measurement and Production Systems Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) systems Flow computers and associated communications equipment Custody transfer and production accounting interfaces Industrial Networks and Communications Ethernet/IP TCP/IP ControlNet DeviceNet Serial communications (RS-232, RS-485) Fiber optic communications systems Industrial network infrastructure and managed switches Operations Documentation: Area Classification, P&IDs, and Safe Charts, Wiring/Interconnect drawing Gather, prioritize, and assist with the scheduling of automation maintenance projects. Drives use of sound Reliability Engineering concepts and principles. Utilization of SAP to create work orders for inventory and work planning/prioritization. Partner with other employees and contractors to ensure that all equipment is operating at peak efficiency. Assure all work performed adheres to Chevron's Operational Excellence standards and regulatory requirements. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years recent (no more than two-year absence) automation technician experience in the petroleum and/or chemical industry.
  • Ability and willingness to work a 14 & 14 offshore rotational schedule, 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of pneumatic / electronic instrumentation.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of control and safety systems and capable of using analytical skills to perform predictive failure analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree with a GPA of 2.5 or higher in instrumentation or automation technology or Military rank of E4 or higher with Military Occupational Specialty in Instrumentation, Electrical, or related discipline.
  • Five plus year's recent (no more than two-year absence) automation technician experience in petroleum and/or chemical industry.
  • USCG licensing is considered a plus.
  • Experience working at Chevron-operated GOA deepwater facility.
