Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking a Material Expeditor to manage steel fabrication flows from receiving through cutting on our high-profile commercial, bridge and industrial projects. In this role you coordinate material movement, verify incoming steel and guide staff to meet production needs, using overhead cranes and forklifts as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with related work experience.
  • Experience operating cranes and forklifts; ability to read safety rules.
  • Ability to coordinate material flow and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates locations of materials to be unloaded.
  • Check incoming steel in accordance with receiving procedures to ensure accuracy.
  • Directs and assists other employees as required in all phases of material control and handling.
  • Move materials and assign locations utilizing overhead cranes and/or forklifts.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Keeps work area organized and clean.
  • Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.

The Expeditor works with materials to receive, expedite and coordinate material from receiving stage to the cutting stage. Education/Training - Work Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and/or 12 months of directly related and stable work experience.

Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses
  • Equipment Knowledge & Skills – may include but not limited to cranes and rigging, forklifts.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
