Job summary

Mindspan Institute in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a scientist‑engineer to optimize and apply the expansion microscopy pipeline for brain tissue. You will execute fixation, anchoring, gelation, softening, staining, imaging, and quality control, aiming to improve sample quality and throughput.

You report to the Head of Scalable Chemistry and collaborate across disciplines to advance protocols and share results.

Qualifications

• Hands-on wet-lab experience with solution prep, tissue handling, immunostaining, and fluorescence microscopy.
• Ability to run multi-day, multi-step protocols reproducibly and to troubleshoot/propose improvements.
• Strong experimental judgment and scientific rigor.

Responsibilities

• Execute and optimize expansion microscopy on mouse and human brain tissue from fixation to expansion.
• Produce high-quality expanded and stained samples with increasing throughput.
• Perform immunostaining and antibody screening in expanded tissue on manual and automated systems.
• Image samples by confocal microscopy and quantify quality metrics like expansion factor and labeling quality.
• Document protocols and rationale for parameter choices to enable others to reproduce results.
