Job summary

Nashville Zoo is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our new 24,000 square foot state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital. You will support two veterinarians, a Hospital Manager, and a dedicated team in providing high-quality care to 400+ species.

The role requires a graduate veterinary technician with Tennessee licensure (or eligibility), at least two years’ exotics experience, strong lab skills, and the ability to work weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• Degree as a veterinary technician; Tennessee license or eligibility.
• Minimum two years’ experience with exotic animals in zoo medicine.
• Strong laboratory skills and organizational abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work weekends and holidays when needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor anesthetized animals using medical devices and interpret readings.
• Assist staff veterinarians with anesthesia, procedures, and sampling.
• Provide ICU and inpatient care under veterinary staff guidance.
• Maintain hospital records and assist with lab work (hematology, cytology).
• Handle animals and assist with basic necropsy procedures as needed.
• Train and mentor interns; ensure compliance with USDA/AZA standards.
• Support field conservation work when required.
