Job summary

The Field Museum in Chicago is seeking an Exhibitions Preparator I-Cabinet Maker to assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling, and movement of exhibit properties. You will contribute to mounting artifacts, building prototypes, and supporting exhibit development, working under supervision in the Exhibitions Production team.

Requirements include a high school diploma (bachelor's preferred) and 2+ years in museums or related shops; 35 hours/week, 8:30am–4:30pm, with occasional

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Bachelor's in Fine Arts or Sculpture preferred or related training/experience.
• At least two years in a museum, industrial shop, or fine gallery preferred.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team.
• Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
• Proficiency with safe use of shop tools, equipment, and carpentry techniques.
• Experience in woodworking, cabinet making, welding, fabrication, or replication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling, and/or moving of exhibit properties.
• Clean, maintain, and repair existing exhibits and displays as needed.
• Mount and dismount artifacts for exhibitions.
• Build prototypes, samples, and models to support exhibit development and production.
• Other appropriate duties as assigned.
