Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science/Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field required.
• 1 year experience preferred.
• AHA BLS certification; ACLS within a year of hire.
• ACSM certification (Exercise Physiologist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist) preferred.
• One year of clinical exercise testing experience preferred.
• ECG interpretation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Screen medical histories to identify major risk factors and administer stress testing with cardiac imaging. Recognizes symptoms and contraindications; initiates first responder care.
• Place and scan ambulatory cardiac monitors and BP monitors; use EPIC for scheduling, documentation, reporting, and monitor software.
• Assist Nuclear Medicine Technologist with documentation for accreditation and for Echocardiography team.
• Precept new hires and support onboarding; educate staff.
• Identify stress lab needs; manage supplies and equipment maintenance; ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Identify workflow improvements with clinic leadership and assist with patient intake and other tasks; update protocols.
• Opportunities for level advancement in this role.

JOB SUMMARY

The Exercise Specialist role is a healthcare professional trained to perform clinical exercise stress testing procedures, including in conjunction with cardiac imaging (Nuclear Perfusion and Echocardiography). They will also work in ambulatory monitoring which includes placement and scanning of ambulatory monitoring, scheduling, and work with multiple ambulatory monitoring software systems.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in screening individuals' medical histories and current Health status to identify major health risk factors; administer stress testing procedures in conjunction with cardiac imaging (Nuclear Perfusion and Echocardiography). Recognizes symptom changes & signs of problems; understands absolute and relative contraindications to stress testing. Knows appropriate medical response / processes. Initiates first responder care.
• Placement and scanning of ambulatory cardiac (short and long term monitors) and blood pressure monitors following established protocols. Includes extensive working knowledge of EPIC including scheduling, documentation, and reporting. Work with multiple ambulatory monitoring software for monitor download, scanning, and event summaries. Alert and document critical events to reading provider(s) as necessary.
• Assist Nuclear Medicine Technologist with required documentation for IAC-Nuclear accreditation, NC State Radiologic Imaging documentation, and assist Echocardiography Technical Director with documentation for IAC-Echocardiography.
• Precept new hires, facilitate onboarding tasks and update orientation process as needed in conjunction with manager. Provide education to staff.
• Identify diagnostic stress lab needs; manages appropriate level of supplies and monitors equipment maintenance. Assess the stress-testing environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety and compliance with various regulatory bodies (OSHA, Joint commission, etc.).
• Identifies opportunities to enhance workflows in collaboration with clinic leadership. Assist in other areas of the clinic including patient intake and rooming, EKGs, and other tasks as designated by manager. Update and assist with protocol and policies.
• Level advancement is available in this role.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science/Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field required.
• No previous experience required, however 1-year applicable experience preferred.
• AHA BLS certification; ACLS within a year of hire.
• ACSM certification (Exercise Physiologist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist) preferred.
• One year of clinical exercise testing experience preferred.
• Previous course/experience in ECG interpretation preferred.

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
