Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago provides superior pediatric care and seeks a Cardiac & Pulmonary Exercise Physiologist. This position performs cardiac and pulmonary exercise tests, inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and clinical exercise consultations under the Medical Director.

Responsibilities
  • Perform research and clinical cardiac and pulmonary exercise testing in pediatric and adult patients with congenital and acquired heart or pulmonary disease under the Medical Director of the Pulmonary or Cardiology Division.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services in pediatric and adult patients.
  • Develop exercise prescriptions for children with cardiovascular risk factors or pulmonary disease.
  • Participate in research and educational programs, laboratory strategic initiatives, and professional seminars.
  • Ensure patient safety by monitoring ECG changes, hemodynamic responses, and performing emergency procedures if needed.
  • Generate test reports by transferring data from exercise equipment to report forms and interpreting results in collaboration with physicians.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment (metabolic system, spirometer), troubleshoot equipment problems, perform cleaning, and maintain daily checks of the defibrillator.
  • Generate patient billing forms and coordinate with the billing department.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and well‑stocked laboratory with appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in in‑house and community education activities.
  • Interact professionally with patients, families, referring physicians, and coworkers.
  • Conduct program development and new service implementation.
  • Mentor internship students and provide educational experiences.
  • Travel to outreach clinics as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Master’s level in Exercise Physiology.
  • Minimum of 2 years of pediatric or 4 years of adult exercise physiology experience; additional experience preferred.
  • ACSM clinical exercise physiologist certification or AACVPR certified cardiac rehabilitation professional.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • PALS & ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Spirrometry certification from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with patients, families, physicians, hospital staff, public health staff, and community resources.
  • Ability to move equipment and patients safely.
Salary & Compensation

Hourly rate: $28.50–$46.60 (depending on experience and qualifications). Lurie Children’s offers a comprehensive rewards package, including possible hourly differentials and leadership incentives for select roles.
