Job summary

DCH Health System is seeking an Exercise Physiologist to lead cardiac rehabilitation services in Tuscaloosa. You will craft individualized exercise prescriptions, supervise sessions and monitor progress to improve functional capacity and reduce risk factors.

You will schedule sessions, conduct patient evaluations, and promote evidence-based practices while upholding safety and customer-service standards. A relevant degree and CPR certification are required; ACSM certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or fitness-related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • ACSM Exercise Specialist certification preferred; CPR certification required.
  • 1 year of experience in exercise planning, supervision and counseling with cardiac rehab patients preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Overview

Responsible for the provision of services for cardiac rehabilitation in compliance with standards of practice for Cardiac Rehab. Based on the patient's individual need, the Exercise Physiologist must guide interventions for restoring functional capacity, reducing coronary artery disease risk factors, and promoting behaviors that lead to maintenance of healthy and social independence. Responsible for evaluating and prescribing safe exercise prescriptions, and leading appropriate exercises for each patient's exercise session.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing patient's exercise prescriptions.
  • Provides exercise planning, counseling and monitoring to patients.
  • Responsible for scheduling cardiac rehab session.
  • Perform necessary assessments for patient evaluations and treatment plans.
  • Ensure that all patients receive professional customer focused service.
  • Demonstrates and establishes an atmosphere of excellent customer service.
  • Coordinates with supervisor for arranging maintenance for all Cardiac Rehab equipment.
  • Assists with evaluating and recommending new equipment.
  • Promotes benefits of Cardiac Rehab with local physicians and the community.
  • Responsible for teaching education classes for patients.
  • Assist with outcome measurements.
  • Assist the Coordinator in adhering to AACVPR's standards.

  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in exercise science or fitness-related field required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience in exercise planning, supervision and counseling with cardiac rehab patients preferred. Certification as an ACSM Exercise Specialist preferred with experience, certification, or training equivalent required. CPR certification required. Must have knowledge of a variety of exercise equipment. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

Working Conditions

Physical: Physical presence is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Prolonged standing and walking with exposure to all patient elements. Is able to kneel, sit, crouch, or stoop with good balance for extended periods. Effective communication and speaking skills. Good motor coordination with manual dexterity. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and have the ability to move heavier objects with assistance on occasion.

Environmental: Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazard materials and/or cleaning solutions. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment, as appropriate. Must have tolerance of a variety of environments and situations.

Psychological: Includes addressing conflict, communicating with all types of personalities, and being responsible for outcomes/results. Subject to stress and fatigue.
