WHRO seeks a Vice President of News to lead the day-to-day operations of the WHRO newsroom and the Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism, aligning editorial and management teams to deliver high-quality, trusted content. The role is office-based with hands-on leadership and regular staff engagement.

The VP will oversee strategy, budgeting, multi-platform coverage, and data-driven improvement, while guiding local and investigative reporting and strengthening the station’s public service

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business administration, or related field.
  • Proven experience in newsroom leadership.
  • Experience managing budgets and strategic plans.
  • Experience coaching and motivating a team.

Responsibilities

  • Safeguards and advances the newsroom’s reputation for journalistic integrity and ethics across all news operations.
  • Collaborates across departments to advance station priorities and audience growth.
  • Provides leadership and drives strategy for News staff in a multi‑platform environment.
  • Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and procurement processes.
  • Develops and monitors KPIs to assess newsroom efficiency and improvements.
  • Fosters a digital newsroom culture and growth across platforms.
