Job description

Executive Vice President – Underwriting & Business Development

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced executive to lead both underwriting and business development functions for one of our favorite clients. This role blends strategic oversight of insurance operations with a growth‑focused leadership mandate. The ideal candidate will be a forward‑thinking leader with deep industry expertise.

Underwriting & Risk Management
  • Provide strategic oversight of underwriting operations across general liability and professional liability lines
  • Guide underwriting strategy for captive products and rate setting
  • Coordinate with legal teams and reinsurance brokers (domestic and international)
  • Structure and negotiate reinsurance agreements (e.g., quota share, excess‑of‑loss)
  • Ensure compliance and audit underwriting practices
  • Lead a team of approximately 10 underwriters and 5–10 direct reports
Captive Oversight
  • Monitor captive performance metrics including claims, loss development, and capital adequacy
  • Oversee governance and regulatory compliance for captive entities
  • Align captive strategy with broader organizational goals
Business Development & Growth
  • Drive go‑to‑market strategy for commercial casualty and property insurance
  • Cultivate and expand carrier relationships
  • Lead a team of approximately 20–30 sales professionals
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities
  • Champion a growth‑oriented culture across the organization
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, capital allocation, and statutory reporting
  • Ensure financial stewardship and alignment with strategic objectives
Leadership & Culture
  • Serve as a senior executive within the organization
  • Influence organizational structure and strategic direction
  • Collaborate across divisions (agency, MGU, captive) to align goals and drive performance
  • Lead succession planning and leadership development initiatives
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across teams
