Job summary

Zurich North America seeks an Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter for our National Large Property team in New York. Hybrid work with in-office three days per week is available to balance client needs and office presence.

You will handle complex domestic Large Property accounts, leveraging underwriting expertise and broker relationships in the East region to drive growth and retention.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; technical knowledge of Large Property underwriting.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice pathways may apply with relevant years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
• Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs.
• May provide guidance to lower level associates.
• Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support retention and acquisition.
• Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
• Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
• Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter, to join our National Large Property team in Zurich’s New York office. While this position will be based out of our New York office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

As a Large Property Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal domestic Large Property accounts and serve as a Subject Matter Expert on the team. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with Select Brokers focused in the East region.

In this role, you will:

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.

This role will be filled at either the Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter Level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Executive Underwriter - Large Property Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience working in a team environment

AVP, Underwriting Director - Large Property Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within the East region.

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The combined salary range for this position is $125,300.00 - $271,300.00. The proposed salary range for the Executive Large Property Underwriter is $125,300.00 - $205,100.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.The proposed salary range for the AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter is $165,600.00 - $271,300.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
