Job summary

AIG is seeking an Executive Underwriter to enhance our risk management team in Chicago. In this role, you will develop and manage underwriting strategies, engage in negotiations, and lead underwriting projects while collaborating with various teams.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of Commercial Insurance experience, a Bachelor's degree, and proven ability to manage relationships effectively. We prioritize skills and motivations in a dynamic work environment.

How You Will Create An Impact
  • Develops and manages underwriting strategies for both renewals and prospects within the portfolio of accounts, including knowledge of the current market penetration of AIGRM products and development of specific plans to increase portfolio share.
  • Develops and implements negotiation strategies; makes independent sales calls to market and cross‑market products, identifies target markets, designs, and implements strategies for lead development and builds prospect lists.
  • Provides technical direction to management, less‑senior specialists, producers, and claims adjusting personnel; communicates risk appetite and AIGRM value proposition to brokers.
  • Collaborates with Distribution, Territory Managers, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross‑selling opportunities from brokers.
  • Rapidly evaluates, prioritizes, and selects submissions to be underwritten.
  • Recognizes and creates cross‑sell opportunities for other Commercial products.
  • Collaborates with brokers to understand the deal structure, terms, and AIG services that best meet clients’ needs.
  • Might review, evaluate and make recommendations to underwriting guidelines.
  • Might direct or conduct internal underwriting audits.
  • Negotiates pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure with brokers and clients.
  • Participates in special underwriting projects as needed.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • 5+ years of Commercial Insurance Company, Agency, or Brokerage experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Advanced working knowledge of US Casualty lines of business (Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability) including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and risks.
  • Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship building experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and results oriented.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
  • Expertise with underwriting analytical tools and technology.
Compensation

For positions based in Illinois, the base salary range is $104,600-$127,600 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. Your actual compensation will be dependent on your skills, experience, and qualifications.
