Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry seeks an experienced State Forester to lead the agency's forestry programs and protect, manage, and promote Louisiana's forest resources. The State Forester provides statewide executive leadership, sets annual goals, and serves as the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Forestry.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of forestry.
• At least four (4) years of forestry experience in the South.

Responsibilities

• Executive direction and strategic planning for all forest interests and forestry matters.
• Lead wildfire detection, suppression, and prevention efforts.
• Enforce laws pertaining to forest woodlands and oversee forest protection.
• Monitor compliance with forest practices and BMPs.
• Direct landowner assistance for reforestation and sustainable land management.
• Maintain forest inventory and data; Public outreach and education.
• Provide wildfire training and volunteer firefighter programs.
• Administer the Office of Forestry as Assistant Commissioner.
• Coordinate with federal and interstate partners (USFS, NASF).
• Represent Louisiana with regional forestry groups and interstate bodies.
