Job summary

City Life Church in Mount Pleasant, SC, is seeking an Executive Pastor of Operations to serve as a pastoral executive with a COO mandate, translating ministry direction into aligned priorities and sustainable capacity. This full-time role reports to the Lead Pastor and works under the oversight of the elders.

• Demonstrated senior-level executive or operations leadership.
• Experience in church, nonprofit, organizational growth, or church planting environments preferred.
• Biblically qualified for eldership and a faithful teacher of Scripture.
• Aligned with City Life Church's doctrine, discipleship culture, and Acts 29 convictions.
• Humble, hungry, and relationally wise; secure in second-chair leadership.
• Consistent in execution and motivated by the gospel rather than personal profile.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership, translating elder-approved direction into priorities, plans, owners, deadlines, and measurable outcomes.
• Supervise, coach, and develop staff and ministry leaders with clear accountability and reporting structures.
• Lead weekly staff and leadership rhythms, ensuring follow-through across ministries and resolving bottlenecks.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting; maintain sound financial controls and reserves.
• Oversee HR processes, facilities, safety, technology, systems, administration, vendor relationships, and operational risk management.
• Strengthen processes for guest connection, communication, volunteers, children and youth safety, events and capacity planning.
• Support church plant operations with integrated planning, milestones, budgets, and residency framework in coordination with Acts 29.
• Model prayer, servant leadership, and personal discipleship; participate in pastoral care, teaching, and preaching as agreed with Lead Pastor.

Job Description:

As City Life grows, advances a current church plant, and prepares for future plants, the Executive Pastor of Operations will serve as a pastoral executive with a chief operating officer (COO) mandate: turning ministry direction into aligned priorities, equipped teams, disciplined execution, and sustainable capacity. This full-time role (with benefits) reports to Aaron Nebrija, Lead Pastor, and works within the oversight of City Life's elders.

Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership, translating elder-approved direction and the Lead Pastor's vision into annual priorities, quarterly plans, owners, deadlines, and measurable outcomes.
• Supervise, coach, and develop staff and ministry leaders, establishing clear accountability, reporting relationships, decision rights, and performance expectations.
• Lead weekly staff and leadership rhythms, drive follow-through across ministries, and resolve bottlenecks.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting; ensure sound financial controls and steward a long-term goal of at least 26 weeks of operating reserves.
• Oversee HR processes, facilities, safety, technology, systems, administration, vendor relationships, and operational risk management.
• Strengthen processes for guest connection, communication, volunteers, children and youth safety, events, and growth-related capacity planning.
• Support the current church plant with an integrated plan, milestones, budgets, and operational readiness, and help build a repeatable pathway and residency framework for future planters in coordination with Acts 29.
• Model prayer, servant leadership, and personal discipleship, and participate in pastoral care, teaching, and preaching as agreed with the Lead Pastor.

Qualifications & Skills

• Demonstrated senior-level executive or operations leadership, including leading people, budgets, systems, and cross-functional initiatives
• Experience in church, nonprofit, organizational growth, or church planting environments strongly preferred
• Biblically qualified for eldership (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1) and a faithful teacher of Scripture
• Aligned with City Life's doctrine, discipleship culture, and Acts 29 convictions
• Humble, hungry, and relationally wise; secure in second-chair leadership and willing to address difficult issues
• Consistent in execution and motivated by the gospel rather than personal profile
