Description

About Populus

Populus is the first carbon positive hotel in the United States. Inspired by the aspen groves that give the building its name and its form, the property was designed to return more than it consumes, from the materials within its walls to the ingredients on its plates. Located in the center of Denver, Populus was built to leave the city better than it was found.

The position

The Executive Meetings Manager sells and details small group business at Populus, typically groups of ten to twenty room nights. The role carries an inquiry from the first response through contracting, detailing, and execution, which means the client works with one person across the whole relationship rather than being passed between departments.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to incoming group and meeting inquiries, and qualify each against property parameters.
  • Prospect for new business through outreach to past clients, industry events, and direct contact within target markets.
  • Conduct property tours and present the guest rooms, meeting space, and culinary program.
  • Prepare proposals and contracts, and maintain complete and current account records.
  • Detail each program, including food and beverage, room set, and audio visual requirements, asking the questions that surface what a client has not thought to mention.
  • Produce group resumes, communicate requirements to every department, and confirm follow through before arrival.
  • Attend set up and remain present through execution.
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly sales reporting.
What the position requires
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in hotel group sales, meetings, or event sales.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience in hotel sales, conference services, or event operations is preferred.
  • An understanding of how hotel departments interact and what each needs in order to deliver exceptional experiences to a group.
  • The ability to negotiate terms and close business while maintaining the relationship.
  • Availability for evenings and weekends when groups require it.
  • The ability to move throughout the property to conduct site inspections.
  • Strong written communication, including proposals, contracts, and group resumes that departments rely on to deliver each program accurately.
  • Clear and responsive verbal communication with clients, planners, and associates across the property. Helpful, though not required
  • Experience with small group or executive meetings business specifically.
  • Familiarity with Delphi, Amadeus, or a comparable sales and catering system.
  • Established relationships within the Denver market.
  • Experience with groups that select a property for its sustainability commitments.
  • Candidates arriving from catering sales, conference services, or a comparable coordination background are encouraged to apply. Detailed discipline and relationship judgment matter more here than years in a particular seat.
Sustainability and stewardship

Meeting planners increasingly need to document what a property delivers, not just describe it. This role provides that proof, connecting how Populus operates to what a client's program actually achieves in sourcing, waste, and reporting for lasting return on meeting investment. At Populus, that proof is frequently the reason a group signs.

Compensation and benefits

$65,000 to $75,000

  • An RTD EcoPass, which covers transit to and from the property at no cost to you.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible associates.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid sick leave under the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, and paid time off for eligible associates.
  • Hotel discounts throughout North America.
  • Training and development, including the service and ethos programming developed specifically for this property.

If you care deeply about people, take pride in doing the right thing, remain curious, and want to contribute to something larger than a single shift, you will find a place at Populus. Together create experiences that leave our guests, and the world around us, better than we found them.
