Job summary

The Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley seeks a visionary Head of Technical Services to lead a diverse team responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, digitization, and metadata management. Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Five years of experience in a special collections technical services role.
• Two years of leadership experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution preferred.
• Experience with archival acquisitions, processing, cataloging, metadata, and digital preservation.
• Ability to work in languages other than English (Spanish preferred).

Responsibilities

• Leads and manages the Technical Services team, setting vision and coordinating work.
• Manages a team of 14 career staff plus project staff and interns.
• Fosters collaborative, inclusive culture aligned with library values.
• Oversees operations including acquisition, collection control, accessioning, processing, digitization, cataloging.
• Ensures standards-based metadata and access, tracks work.
• Drives innovation and organizational change.
• Serves on leadership teams and committees.
• Contributes to national/international reputation via research and collaboration.
• Keeps up-to-date on trends in higher education, special collections, and information tech.
• Manages operating budget and partners on financial planning and grant opportunities.
