Qualifications

  • Editing and copyediting skills required, with knowledge of editing conventions.
  • Knowledge of formal academic writing conventions preferred.
  • Proficiency with word processing, email, Internet; ability to use Adobe CS and Photoshop for editing and production.
  • General knowledge of African art history or related field required.
  • Experience in grant writing or resource development is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee editorial and production work for African Arts and Ufahamu journals, and other Center publications.
  • Solicit and evaluate editorial material, write copy, and manage production schedules.
  • Oversee art direction, layout, proofs, and liaise with advertisers, printers, and distributors.
  • Represent the publishing arm of ASC within UCLA and to international scholarly communities.
  • Supervise student assistants and coordinate editorial schedules with the Publication Coordinator.
  • Develop publication proposals and manage additional projects such as monographs or new journals.
