Job summary

Northwestern University is seeking a University Chaplain and Executive Director for Religious and Spiritual Life in Evanston. This role reports to the Assistant VP for Campus Inclusion and Community and to the VP for Student Affairs, guiding campus religious life with a multifaith focus and collaboration with CRC partners.

The position requires flexibility, night/weekend work, and strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in divinity, theology, or related field is required.
• A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in an academic community and/or working with young adults to nurture communities of faith.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) team and budget; oversee chapels and spaces; advise on prayer and contemplation spaces across campus.
• Manage departmental outreach including fundraising, grants, program development, and pastoral care; develop multifaith workshops and supervise student activities.
• Coordinate with Campus Religious Center and partners; co-develop multifaith programs; support CRC initiatives for students.
• Provide pastoral care and crisis support; serve on-call during day and after hours for RSL.
• Lead and coordinate worship services; assist with music; perform baptisms, weddings, and memorial services as needed.
• Officiate university-wide events like Convocation and Commencement; participate in divisional initiatives.
