Job description

Calling All Esteemed Leaders! Are you a software engineering leader who excels at solution architecture, technical strategy, engineering quality, and team development? Do you thrive in complex environments where innovation, data, and cross‑functional collaboration come together to deliver meaningful value for caregivers? If so, we invite you to explore this leadership opportunity with Providence.

The Role

The Executive Director will shape how Providence uses enterprise application data to inform decisions, improve operations, and create value. As the leader of the data and reporting strategy for Enterprise Business Applications and Technologies, this individual will serve Providence Shared Services and users across the organization by strengthening the data and reporting capabilities supporting Human Capital, Finance, Supply Chain, workforce management, and related enterprise platforms.

The leader will bring business stakeholders, executives, architects, engineers, analytics teams, and service partners together around a unified strategy and operating model. The mandate is to transform fragmented data and reporting capabilities into an integrated, governed, and trusted enterprise ecosystem that reduces duplication, establishes authoritative data sources, accelerates insights through self‑service reporting, protects sensitive information, and enables predictive and proactive decision‑making.

Beyond defining the strategy, the Executive Director will lead its execution. This includes establishing the roadmap and engineering standards, guiding architecture and delivery, developing organizational capabilities, managing cross‑functional dependencies, and ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, supportable, adopted, and continuously improved. The successful leader will balance immediate stakeholder needs with the foundational investments required to create lasting enterprise value.

What You're Do
  • Responsible for all software solution, architecture strategy, software design and engineering deliverables for the portfolio that they support.
  • Leads the group to design technical solutions that deliver the expected value to the partner, and business objectives to PSJH. Ensures that the technical vision and designs are iterative and well‑positioned for successive releases.
  • Anticipates industry and market trends, advises business leaders on new solutions, and consistently defines successful technical solutions that succeed in the marketplace.
  • Guides the creation of conceptual models for new solutions and the future solution direction that incorporate market, technology, and business trends.
  • Advises business leaders on needed capabilities and technologies, and how to build or acquire them to realize the future solution vision, over multiple releases.
  • Uses a cross‑service perspective to lead the planning and design of technical solutions that defines software, tools, cloud services, processes, role assignments, dependencies, and documentation, resulting in a complete solution that delivers manageable, supportable, performant, resilient services that meet KPIs.
  • Promotes a culture of quality and ensures that the standards of the Engineering teams, including PM, Development, and Test, are consistent with the overall service objectives.
  • Leads software engineers in the architecture and design of solutions for unit, integrated, load/performance and security testing of software solutions to meet quality KPIs.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of data; knows what data is needed, how to find new or missing data, connects disparate or ambiguous data, and describes defects, their impact and relevance to the caregiver‑focused scenario and to the solution in a concise and impactful way within the scope of the job.
  • In some positions, uses caregiver or partner knowledge to guide integration testing across groups within the division.
  • Prioritizes work across teams for multiple software solutions and rebalances priorities to respond to changes. Removes barriers to the group’s agility to enable teams to shift priorities quickly without losing solutions.
  • Promotes a group culture of quality and ensures that the teams' standards are consistent with the overall solution objectives. Makes difficult decisions to meet quality and shipping goals.
  • Optimizes or transforms the engineering lifecycle for the solution or division to achieve significant engineering system improvements that enable caregiver and business goals.
  • Drives new ways of thinking across the division to improve quality, engineering solutions, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities.
  • Works with service engineering to define and build the tools to support the software solution. Works with service engineering to define the hand‑off process between software engineering and service engineering.
  • Has a sense of pride, commitment, and personal accountability for the end‑to‑end solution quality, completeness and resulting user experience for the life of the solution. Uses the solution regularly to understand it thoroughly and discover ways to improve it.
  • Resolves issues throughout the life of the solution, including those outside of their area of responsibility as needed; opens discussions with peers to take action when needed to ensure the success of the solution.
  • Builds a diverse team with capabilities needed to achieve current and future business objectives. Balances the development of existing employees while bringing in new external and internal talent.
