Reporting to the SMART Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for executive leadership, strategic direction, and overall administrative and operational oversight of the Authority.

Created in 2016 to connect Telluride and Mountain Village with surrounding communities, SMART is a young and small organization that is highly community-focused. Primary responsibilities will include carrying out Board policies and directions; leading staff; overseeing the development and delivery of regional transportation services; managing the Authority’s finances and grants; and building strong relationships with member jurisdictions, transit and human service partners, community stakeholders, and the public.

The published salary range is $165,000-$180,000. Housing assistance resources available and dependent upon the successful candidate's need and desire.

The ED is expected to be an engaged and visible leader who can move effectively between Board governance, organizational management, transportation operations, community engagement, and regional partnership development. Success in the position requires the ability to understand SMART's rural and resort-community context, navigate a politically engaged environment, and build consensus around transportation priorities.
