Job summary

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission seeks a Director of Government Affairs to lead public policy, legislative advocacy, and cross‑sector partnerships. You will shape strategies across local, state, and federal levels and coordinate with SFPUC senior leadership to advance priorities.

The role requires eight years of policy experience, three of which in supervision, and a proven ability to manage complex coalitions, budgets, and funding opportunities for public impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university.
• Eight (8) years of professional experience in policy, advocacy, government or regulatory affairs.
• At least three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Craft the public policy agenda and strategy for advocacy across legislative bodies.
• Direct development and execution of advocacy policies at local, state and federal levels.
• Build external relationships with officials, agencies, associations and environmental groups.
• Maintain internal relationships and brief Executive Management on policy trends.
• Oversee tracking of federal, state and local legislation and regulatory issues.
• Prepare position statements, talking points and comments on proposed bills and regulations.
• Manage daily activities of lobbyists and reporting; supervise direct reports and recruit top talent.
• Identify and secure new funding streams in response to new laws and regulations.
