Job summary

The Science History Institute seeks an accomplished executive to serve as Vice President and Arnold Thackray Director of the Othmer Library of Chemical History in Philadelphia. This leader directs all library functions, oversees collections and exhibits, and partners with leadership on new initiatives.

Required is a PhD and a proven track record managing large teams, budgets, and donor relations. The role is based in our Old City office with in-person attendance and relocation support available.

Qualifications

• PhD in the history of science, technology, or medicine.
• Demonstrated record of success in managing large teams with innovative leadership and strategic vision.
• Experience managing budgets and working with nonprofit governance bodies.
• Demonstrated donor cultivation experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and strategic vision for the Othmer Library and related collections.
• Collaborate to oversee acquisitions, processing, deaccessioning, and preservation activities.
• Lead collections growth through space planning, shifts, and curated displays.
• Oversee endowments, gifts, awards, and reporting to major donors and foundations.
• Represent the Institute for the Independent Research Library Association.
• Collaborate with the President and CEO on the Center for the History of Life Sciences.
